Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park, located between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range, is often referred to as Tanzania’s “mini-Serengeti” due to its open savannah landscapes and rich wildlife. Just a few hours’ drive from Dar es Salaam, it is one of the most accessible parks in the country, making it a perfect choice for short safaris and first-time visitors.
The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and buffalo. Its famous Mkata floodplain offers excellent year-round game viewing, especially during the dry season when animals gather around waterholes. Bird lovers can spot more than 400 species, from colorful lilac-breasted rollers to powerful bateleur eagles.
Mikumi also serves as a gateway to the vast wilderness of Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve), making it an ideal stopover for extended southern Tanzania safari adventures. Whether on a day trip or a multi-day safari, Mikumi National Park provides an authentic game drive experience in a stunning and serene setting.
